MAKING SMART CHOICES: AN OVERVIEW OF MATERIALS FOR SUSTAINABLE FASHION
The upcoming webinar, “Making the Smart Choice: An Overview of Materials for Sustainable Fashion”, moderated by Teneshia Carr will examine the range of materials available to the fashion industry and their current or potential contributions to sustainability. It will provide an honest, impartial and factual assessment of the current state of materials, their impacts, and footprints, while also highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance their sustainability and the sustainability of their life cycles.
This webinar, which offers a comprehensive overview of existing materials and fabrics, kicks off a series of events (deep-dives) exploring specific material “clusters” in greater depth. These clusters include synthetic fibers, man-made cellulosic fibers, leather, organic fibers, and innovative materials derived from waste and recycled fibers. These material-specific webinars are scheduled to take place in late 2024 and early 2025.The first overview webinar will consist of a series of presentations from representatives of different materials, followed by a discussion with selected sustainable fashion experts.

- Educate participants by providing a comprehensive overview of various materials used in the fashion industry, including their environmental and social impacts, and highlighting ongoing efforts to improve their sustainability.
- Promote informed decision-making by equipping participants with the knowledge needed to make informed choices about materials in their fashion-related activities through factual, impartial assessments.
- Showcase innovative solutions by introducing participants to new materials, presenting case studies of successful sustainable material implementations.
- Encourage industry collaboration by fostering a collaborative environment where industry experts, brands, and other stakeholders can share insights, best practices, and promote partnerships towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
