Milan Climate & Fashion Talks
Links between the fashion industry and the climate crisis are well established. The sector is responsible for an estimated 2-8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Around 215 trillion litres of water per year are consumed by the industry, while textiles account for approximately 9% of annual micro plastic losses to the oceans.
Without major change to production processes and consumption patterns in fashion, the social and environmental costs of the sector will continue to mount, hindering the advancement of SDGs 12 (Climate Action) and 13 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
The COP26 summit (October 2021) will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. In light of the Milan pre-COP26 meeting, Camera della Moda will deliver a message to the Italian Ministry of Environment with key takeaways of the Milan Climate & Fashion Talks.
