ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative

At the Climate Action Summit, EFI will screen a video series entitled ‘Meet the Makers’, which follows a number of Kenyan artisan groups who are producing sustainably and ethically produced garments and accessories for EFI social enterprise partners in Nairobi, Artisan Fashion. The videos show the artisans use of natural fibres and recycled materials, such as metal parts and Kenyan dhow sail, being carefully crafted into accessories for luxury fashion brands like Vivienne Westwood.

EFI brand partners Studio189 will also display some looks at the Summit, featuring handwoven cotton made by artisans in Burkina Faso. The EFI has a network of ateliers in Burkina Faso, where artisans create handwoven cotton, known as ‘Faso Danfani’ to sell to the international luxury market. The EFI code of conduct, together with regular social impact reports, ensures that this work is both respecting the environment and positively impacting the lives of the artisans.

UNECE

The Forests for Fashion initiative is run by the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section in cooperation with the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification and a wide range of designers. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining forests through the creation of sustainable forest value chains, and their important role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

For the Climate Action Youth Summit, the Forests for Fashion Initiative will team up with Olistic the Label and Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. to showcase innovative and beautiful designs made from certified wood-based textiles and produced in a sustainable and ethical manner.

Connect4Climate – World Bank Group

Connect4Climate will be exhibiting the new 360 version of X-Ray Fashion VR throughout Climate Week in New York City this September.  X-Ray Fashion explores the impact of the fast fashion industry on our climate and encourages audiences to embrace sustainable fashion options.  It was originally an immersive installation that premiered at Venice Film Festival; the headset version made its premiere in Copenhagen this fall.  X-Ray Fashion 360 will be featured at the House of Solutions, part of the Climate Festival on Governors Island (open to the public on September 21st from 11am-5pm), and at the SDG Action Zone as part of a curated selection of sustainability-related VR content (September 23-27, Rose Garden, UNHQ).  Connect4Climate will also be amplifying youth voices at the Climate Summit through its #YouthTakeover initiative and a Youth Policy Jam focused on unlocking climate finance as well as launching the global advocacy campaign around new feature documentary The Great Green Wall.
